Post #14: Love The Message, Not The Method

Sometimes it's really not a good idea to actually HEAR someone that you follow, read his/her email, ad just overall like.  I say this because no everyone sounds a crisp as they come off in their writing. (Oh, I'm talking in the internet marketing world)

I'm not knocking anyone because, let's face it, you follow someone for a reason.  You either like what they've accomplished, you like what they've given you, or maybe you just like their picture.  Whatever it is, you're following them for a reason.

Recently, and I won't mention any names, I heard someone for the first time in an interview they were a guest on.  If I hadn't have read or been following this person already, after hearing him there would be NO WAY I would even subscribe to their list!  This guy just did not come across like he knew what he was doing.  I was highly disappointed.

Good thing I conduct interviews on my own (check out the "gift" on the upper right side of the page) and know that some people, as sharp as they may seem, just don't do interviews well.

All that being said, I guess I'm just saying that don't let one part of someone's method of communication turn you off if you like the whole message.

Good points, Andrew.  I think sometimes it's a matter of having unrealistic expectations of people.  And not everyone can excel in everything.  Some online marketers I've met are much better at speaking than writing.  Some are pros at doing webinars and yet their blogs are a mess.

People who are great interviewers are few and far between.  Interviewing someone is definitely a specialized skill and an art.

I guess we should focus on gathering the nuggets and the gems from the particular talents that people possess and they should take the same from us. :-)
See you soon over at #blog30!
