Post #20: Fun Fact To Know About Andrew #3
One of the things I do is substitute teach for some of the local schools. I usually sub for 6th grade through 12th grade, but ccasionally I’m asked to go to a K-5th.
For those that don’t know what a substitute actually does, I’ll briefly explain: Because the regular teach doesn’t know what kind of background the person who will substitute their class has, they cannot assume the sub knows the subject being taught. So, therefore, the lesson plans are usually basic stuff, just to keep the students occupied.
A substitute has to be EXTREMELY flexible, especially one that ranging from teaching classes K-12. There is such a wide variety of social status, development and maturity level of the students, a sub has to be able to adapted to just about anything.
One of my goals when I substitute a class is to instill manners and politeness in the students. I never call them “kids”, I call the students Ladies or Gentlemen. I do NOT allow students to sit on desks (which is, I guess, the cool thing to do…and is not enforced very often).
So, if your child is ever in one of my classes, you can rest assure that, at least for that one hour, there will be that kind of atmosphere instilled upon them. I could get into a lot more details, but I’ll leave it at that for now.
If you’ve got a question about this, please feel free to leave it in the comments.
